My current work began as a reaction to moving from the city to the country, as a way of getting to know this new space, to become familiar with it.
The man-made mark on the natural environment fascinated me-under the large expanse of sky, the natural organic lines of the rolling midlands countryside were broken up by houses, fences, gates... ancient stone walls appearing from the ground itself and disappearing back into the earth.
From these images I am attempting to extract fragments of nature and the environment around me, exploring the process of mark-making and colour-mixing, and composing these elements-organic and geometric-into my work.
